At Work Forum: How to Do Art in Public Spaces
January 26, 6 p.m.
Chicago Cultural Center, 5th Floor
This panel discussion offers insight into how to create art for the public, with the public, and in the public sphere. The panelists walk you through why they engage "the people" in the streets, plazas, and other public arenas and offer suggestions and guidelines to creating art in public spaces, whether it's visual art, music, street theater, or another creative endeavor. Tricia Van Eck moderates this discussion with Chicago artists and curators who've successfully navigated the public realm to organize cultural performances and projects. Panelists include Chuck Thurow, Former Director of Hyde Park Art Center, Nathan Mason, Curator of Special Projects with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture; Lou Mallozzi, Experimental Sound Studio; and Carron Little, Walkabout Theater Company and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
