Water Music on the Beach 2019

Sunday, August 25 // 1-4 PM beginning at 6018North, traveling to Lane Beach, 5915 North Sheridan Road

Water Music on the Beach is an annual series of live performances initiated in 2012 that highlights Chicago’s proximity to Lake Michigan. Compositions and scores reflect, react to, or personify the sounds of water. The programming for this event is a collaboration by Comfort Station, Homeroom, and 6018North.

1:00 PM – Meet at 6018 North Kenmore Avenue for a champagne toast. We gather together to honor loved ones who have passed and to acknowledge how art can aid the process of grief and loss. We toast the lives of our passed loved ones, Diane Christiansen’s parents, and her friend Deborah Boardman, who worked extensively with 6018North.

1:15 PM – Diane Christiansen and a group of female artists drag a collaboratively made giant hourglass ‘quilt’ to Lane Beach (Thorndale and Sheridan) where women can join throughout the day to sew. Alexander Massa accompanies the procession, leading a ceremonial dirge to Lane Beach with Arthur Black, Anton Hatwich, Isaiah Spencer, and Mai Sugimoto.

1:30 PM – Quin Kirchner creates a percussion performance at Lane Beach.

2:00 PM – Simon Anderson performs Fluxus scores at Lane Beach.

2:15 PM – Alexander Massa performs with Arthur Black, Anton Hatwich, Emerson Hunton, Quin Kirchner, Isaiah Spencer, and Mai Sugimoto.

2:45 PM – AJ McClenon and Xris Espinoza perform a sonic recapturing from FLOAT at Lane Beach. FLOAT was a collaborative meditative performance by Jefferson Pinder and AJ McClenon presented on July 27, 2019 – the 100th year anniversary of the Chicago Race Riots and the murder of Eugene Williams, a teenage boy who crossed an invisible racial barrier at 29th Street Beach.

3:10 PM – Alexandria Eregbu performs at Lane Beach.

3:30 PM – EdBrass Brasil performing with Emerson Hunton and Nick Meryhew at Lane Beach. EdBrass is part of Perto de Lá <> Close to There, a Comfort Station exchange project with a multi-disciplinary group of artists from Salvador, Brazil and Chicago.
